Washington at it's worst by Gary Bauer

Yesterday’s Capitol Hill “show trial” of AIG chief executive Edward Liddy was disgusting. Of all the people in the hearing room, Liddy was the least responsible for the bonus fiasco. Liddy was asked by the feds to run AIG last fall. He works for a dollar a year. He basically took the job to help our country. Yet the finger-pointing politicians in the committee room were the same politicians who, along with the White House, rammed through the “stimulus” bill without allowing enough time to read the details – and now a $165 million “detail” has come back to bite them.

Yesterday, Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) admitted that he removed a provision from the bill that would have addressed the bonuses. And he did so after receiving a request from the Obama Administration! This admission comes after Dodd’s unequivocal denial that he had anything to do with it. And here’s something else you should know. This week, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner sent a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) promising to punish AIG for the bonuses. In his letter, Geithner wrote that AIG will have to pay back to the Treasury “the amount of the retention awards just paid.” And, “In addition, we will deduct from the $30 billion in assistance an amount equal to the amount of those payments.”

Don’t miss what has happened here. This administration and its liberal allies in Congress approved of the AIG contracts and protected them legally in the “stimulus” bill, and now they are going to “fine” AIG for obeying the law they wrote. That’s Washington at its worst! But rather than admit they caused the bonus problem, Obama and his liberal allies went back to the strategy that has worked so well so far – attack business, Wall Street, executives and fan the flames of class warfare. President Obama did his best imitation yesterday of a Latin American demagogue, telling a campaign rally in California that families earning more than $250,000 a year “can afford” his tax hikes. “It’s not like suddenly they’re going to have to go to the poor house. But what that does is it allows us to pay for health care…” Translation: Anyone who fights against higher taxes doesn’t care about the sick and suffering.

For anyone falling for this, consider this fact. If you are a family of four living in New York, California or a lot of other high tax states and you earn $250,000, after state, local and federal income, sales and property taxes, you are fortunate to have $125,000 left BEFORE Obama raises your taxes. Does anyone think those “rich” people are why we are in trouble today? British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once rightly observed, “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” That’s one lesson Washington liberals refuse to learn.

I find it interesting...

...that the democrats would try and blame this economic hardship on the White House. Who has been in charge of the Congress since 2006? The DEMOCRATS! Who wouldn't let there EVEN be a vote on domestic drilling until so much dust was being thrown in the air that in looked like the dust bowl of the 30's? THE DEMOCRATS! Who just passed a JACKASS of a bill on domestic drilling? The DEMOCRATS!

"NO oil drilling WITHIN 50 of the coast!" Well that's like saying "you can go off your diet on Friday nights...BUT...you can only eat sawdust." WHAT DAMN GOOD IS IT TO DO? 50 Miles and OUT...is NOT WHERE THE OIL IS FOUND!!! Those democrats...moreso...Nasty Pelosi are just flat out evil beings.

IMPORTANT FACTS:


To the casual observer, this certainly seems like a reasonable compromise. Unfortunately, it’s not. It’s a bait and switch. Here’s why:
A permanent ban out to 50 miles locks-up the largest known offshore energy reserves, including those off the coast of California, that are close to existing infrastructure and be produced the fastest.
The plan permanently bans access to 97 percent of the 10.527 billion barrels off the coast of California. It allows the State to decide whether to produce just 3 percent, or 287 million barrels, which is highly unlikely anyway. The remainder…10.24 billion barrels…is off limits.
Keeping the Eastern Gulf of Mexico off limits also denies access to large reserves located close to existing pipeline infrastructure. The plan keeps an estimated 3.65 barrels of oil and 22 trillion cubic feet of natural gas off limits
The offshore areas surrounding the State of Alaska are not currently subject to any bans. This plan appears to institute a 50-mile ban around energy-rich Alaskan shore for the first time ever. Energy exploration there is just beginning.
While the plan enables the states to “opt in” and produce energy between 50 and 100 miles, it lacks a revenue sharing mechanism, thereby making it highly unlikely that state would chose to do so. In the case of energy production on federal lands – both onshore, and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, states split production revenues with the federal government. Denying the states this incentive effectively prevents new production.
Of the 18 billion barrels of oil locked-up by current bans, the new plan allows access to less than four, and perhaps as little as 2 billion barrels. And without revenue sharing, even the four states most lilely to allow production - Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia - would not do so.
For Comparison: The new plan may make available 2 billion barrels of oil available, beyond 100 miles of the shores on the East Coast. Opening 2000 acres of ANWR’s northern coastal plain - onshore, 70 miles from an existing pipeline - would yield the United States at least an additional 10.4 billion barrels oil.
The Bottom Line: It appears as though the new plan would take the America from banning access to 85 percent of the OCS acreage surrounding the lower 48 states to banning access to roughly 90 percent of its most-promising and easy-to-produce offshore energy reserves. By opening only the farthest reaches of the OCS where no infrastructure exists, denying the states a share in the revenues, and locking up the reserves that are closest (and largest), this proposal ensures that (1) new production would be sparse, at best, and (2) new supplies would not come online for a long, long time. Combine these facts with the plan’s new taxes and government handouts, and the American consumer gets little more than an expensive energy bridge to nowhere.

I saw Nasty's daughter on Hannity and Combs (BTW...what's with that eyebrow?) and SHE is just as stupid and evil hearted as her Mother. Big surprise...right? Every question she responded to...she read off of a card. She would NOT admit that Sarah Palin's OPPORTUNITY...is a step forward for women. She responded as if only a liberal democratic WOMAN can bring grace and forward movement to women. Isn't it absolutely amazing? Liberals would not admit the pain involved with being run over by a steam roller!

Nasty Pelosi (along with other LIBERALS) are trying to stop conservative voices. If that makes you happy...kiss my butt...if it doesn't...you'd better look into what's happening. There is a plan. Dick Morris explains much better than I can in his book called"Fleeced." Get it and READ IT! There is alot about Obama's plans as well.
The Liberals are going to try and quietly pass some laws that will halt talk radio and blogs as well. If you think it can't happen...you are dead wrong! Open your eyes and lets go to work trying to stop this crap!
The "fairness doctrine" is wrong for us. Their plan is cold and calculated! Planned and ready!

Congressman Mike Pence has introduced the "Broadcaster Freedom Act" a bill designed to prevent an imposition of the so-called "fairness doctrine" and OF COURSE...Nasty Pelosi won't let it come to the floor for a vote! If you are waiting for the story on the front page of the morning edition...dream on!
We can let them know that we know what's going on and we are not going to stand for it. We must act now!

Most Egregious Claim of the Week:

Nancy Pelosi, appearing on Meet the Press this week, stated that the surge in Iraq has been a failure because, among a handful of other reasons, the Maliki-led Government has failed to pass a carbon law.

No word on whether she feels the same way about the Democrat-led Congress.
